'The Men and Women of Gunsgreen House'





Following the succeess in 2013 a new series of lectures with Gunsgreen House historian and curator, Derek Janes has been announced

These may well be of interest to members particularly those living in the East Berwickshire area.


The series this year is titled 'The Men and Women of Gunsgreen House' and it will focus on the stories of the people who lived in and were associated with the house. The content of the lectures will reflect Derek’s latest research on the house and its people

In the 2014 Season, there will be an exhibition titled “The Women of Gunsgreen House” at Gunsgreen, with historic and contemporary costumes inspired by some of the women associated with the House, created by fashion technology students from the Galashiels Campus of Heriot Watt University. This lecture series touches on many of the women who are part of this project.

Thursdays from 23 January to 27 February inclusive

 Thursday 23rd January- ‘John and David Nisbet (1753 – 1789) – their business careers’

 Thursday 30th January- ‘Alexander Dow: an extraordinary life’

 Thursday 6th February- ‘Janet Ferguson and the Nisbets’ other close associates’

 Thursday 13th February- ‘The Robertsons and Robertson-Glasgows (1789 – 1830)’

 Thursday 20th February- ‘Three generations of Homes (1830 – 1881)’

 Thursday 27th February- ‘The twentieth century’

Each will begin with tea/coffee and biscuits from 10.00 am
Lectures start at 10.30 am
Each lecture will last around an hour with up to half an hour at the end for questions and further discussion
